Behind The Scenes: Welding & Fabrication

The key difference between GF Moto motorbike exhausts and those built by other companies, is the superior quality of our fabrication and welding. There are very few people in the world who can TIG weld the exotic materials we use to produce GF Moto systems, namely Inconel and Titanium and this is evident in the workmanship of all the aftermarket exhausts GF Moto produce.

 

Once the bends for the GF Moto aftermarket exhausts have been produced in-house, they are passed to our fabricator/welders, many of whom have decades of experience in the precision fabrication required within the F1 world. A fabrication jig and a set of laser cut and machined components will also be passed across to enable the fabricator/welder to assemble the header sets and /or GF Moto End Cans.

 

 

 

The method of welding employed in the production of GF Moto systems is TIG welding. The ability to soft start and stop the heat makes the TIG welding process ideal for welding thin-walled materials, especially in instances where they could be as thin as 0.3mm where the slightest gap or mistake can cause holes or inconsistencies in the weld.

 

Another significant advantage of TIG welding is the uncleaned finish; a good TIG weld is so clean it does not require smoothing out in any way, making it ideal to weld thin-walled exhaust systems such as the super-lightweight GF Moto systems for the BMW S1000RR and the Honda Africa Twin.
